Synopsis

Historically, the city of Sobral has played a relevant role in the spatial context of the northeastern hinterland and, particularly in the state of Ceará, thanks to the production of cotton and livestock, which granted Sobral the status of regional center in the northern part of the state.
Today, in the 1920s, the city of Sobral stands out, no longer for the exuberance of traditional activities, but for the strong presence in the city of modern activities, related to commerce and services, which certainly represent factors of strong influence in promoting the spatial interactions that Sobral maintains. In the context of these interactions, it is important to emphasize the role played by education and health services, which considerably expand Sobral's relations, not only with its region of influence, but with the entire state of Ceará and with the states of Piauí and Rio Grande do Norte.
Given this reality, we can affirm that Sobral continues to have a regional protagonism, resulting from a set of dynamics resulting from the relationships established between society and nature, which are analyzed and interpreted by the authors of the various articles that make up the book SOBRAL: ENTRELAÇANDO OLHARES, EXPERIÊNCIAS e SABERES.
