Synopsis

This book is a reflection of the authors, researchers and discoverers of the paleontological heritage of the northwest region of Ceará and champions of its scientific, social and economic importance. The content seeks to bring together the accumulated knowledge of this experience to help lay people and beginners to delve a little deeper into the important theme of heritage conservation.

At first, the legal aspects involving fossils in Brazil and the possibilities of protecting this geodiversity heritage are presented, involving Education, Culture and Tourism actions. Then, a review is made on the paleontological record of Ceará and the emphasis on the northwest of the State.

Author Biographies

Maria Somália Sales Viana, Universidade Estadual Vale do Acaraú

Geologist, PhD in Geosciences, with a postdoctoral degree in Paleontological Heritage, professor and coordinator of the paleontology laboratory at the Vale do Acaraú State University, and also belongs to the teaching staff of the Graduate Program in Geology at the Federal University of Ceará. She works in research and extension activities at Museu Dom José, curating the fossil collection. She is an effective member of the Brazilian Society of Paleontology and leader of the Research Group at CNPq's Lattes Platform. Member of the Historical and Geographical Institute of Sobral.

Thiago de Albuquerque Lima

Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from the State University Vale do Acaraú and Master's student in Geology at the Federal University of Ceará, CAPES scholarship holder. He is a member of the Research Group and works in research with Paleontological Heritage, environmental management, curation of scientific collections, ecotourism and heritage education. He has participated in scientific events presenting papers.

Wellington Lavor Ferreira

Graduating in Biological Sciences from the State University of Vale do Acaraú. She is a member of the Research Group and works in Paleontological Heritage research and heritage education. She has participated in scientific events presenting works.

Paulo Victor de Oliveira, Universidade Federal do Piauí

Biologist, PhD in Geosciences, professor at the Federal University of Piauí and also belongs to the teaching staff of the Graduate Program in Geology at the Federal University of Ceará. Researcher in Paleontology, coordinator of the Nucleus of Research in Natural Sciences of the Semiarid region of Piauí and editor-in-chief of the Revista Eletrônica Biosphere. He is an effective member of the Brazilian Society of Paleontology and leader of the Research Group at CNPq's Lattes Platform. He is also a Bachelor of Law.

Rebeca Sales Viana, Universidade Estadual Vale do Acaraú

Dentist, PhD in Educational Sciences, professor at the State University Vale do Acaraú - UVA and specialist in cultural management. She is currently Pro-Rector of Extension and Culture at UVA. She is also a poet and member of the Academia Sobralense de Estudos e Letras.

Luiz Antonio Araújo Gonçalves, Universidade Estadual Vale do Acaraú

Geographer, specialist in cultural management, PhD in Geography and professor at the Universidade Estadual Vale do Acaraú - UVA and at the Academic Master's Degree in Geography at UVA. Carrying out a postdoctoral internship in Nature, Countryside and City in the Semiarid Region. He is a member of the Brazilian Network of Studies on Commerce and Consumption and of the Historical and Geographical Institute of Sobral.
