Synopsis

More than parched landscapes, the Brazilian semi-arid region holds a geodiversity of inestimable richness. In addition to its coastal area, the Northeast region offers a plurality of landscapes with potential both for geotourism and for several other activities, but not yet properly developed due to a series of factors pointed out in some studies that appear in this book, one of the first efforts in disseminate this emerging analytical perspective on the dry Northeast, which will certainly be joined by new looks and new stories of its environment and its people.

Vanda de Claudino Sales, Federal University of Ceara - Pici Campus, University of Brasilia Institute of Human Sciences

Bachelor in Geography from the University of Brasília (UnB), Master in Physical Geography from the University of São Paulo (USP), PhD in Environmental Geography from the Paris-Sorbonne University, Post-Doctorate in Coastal Geomorphology from the University of Florida. She is a retired professor at the Department of Geography at the Federal University of Ceará (UFC), visiting professor at the State University Vale do Acaraú (UVA), in Ceará, and an effective member of the Academic Masters in Geography at the same institution. She is leader of the Northeastern Brazilian Megageomorphology Research Group and Regional Deputy Director of the American research foundation CERF (Coastal Education and Research Foundation).

Abraão Levi dos Santos Mascarenhas, Federal University of Ceará, Federal University of Pará, Federal University of South and Southeast Pará, University of São Paulo

I am a geographer from the Federal University of Pará, Master in Geography from the Federal University of Ceará, Doctor in Geography from the University of São Paulo. Leader of the Geoecology of Landscapes and Geoinformation Systems Research Group. He is currently an Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Geography at the Federal University of South and Southeast Pará, where he coordinates research and extension projects in Geomorphology and Environment using geoinformation systems.

Professor at the Department of Geography and at the Graduate Programs in Geography and Archeology at UFPE. Francisca Lusimara Sousa Lopes, Autarquia Municipal de Meio Ambiente - AMMA de Quixadá́-CE

Bachelor and Master in Geography from the State University Vale do Acaraú́ - UVA. Scholarship holder of the Department of Urban Development and Environment of Sobral, and volunteer at LEA - Laboratory of Environmental Studies at UVA. Coordinator of Agenda 21 activities in Sobral. She served at CODAM-Coordination of Environmental Education of the State Superintendence of the Environment-SEMACE and was Deputy Federal Delegate of the Ministry of Agrarian Development. She is currently the Superintendent of the Municipal Environmental Authority-AMMA of Quixadá́-Ceará.

Geographer from the University of Nantes (France) and Master in Geography from the same institution. PhD in Geomorphology from the Paris-Sorbonne University (France), with a doctoral internship at the Federal University of Ceará (UFC – Brazil). Professor at the Université de Paris (France).
